DIVORCE/SEPARATION - Course Background  Course Structure HISTORY Over 300,000 people worldwide have taken this course since it was introduced in America by Dr. Bruce Fisher, in 1974. The course is now available in Canada, Australia and Scandinavia. The UK co-inventors trained with Dr. Fisher in America and started their own programme in Oxford in the 1980's and there is now a UK Network called the OXSEM Divorce/Separation Recovery Programme. PHILOSOPHY The course is educationally and experientially based, rather than Group Therapy, helping people to look at the breakdown of their relationship, not in isolation, but as part of an overall system of interaction between individuals and their environment. The course emphasises the emotional, social and psychological aspects of the divorce process. Legal and financial aspects are also important but we have found that by solving the emotional and social issues the financial and legal issues become easier to solve. The course is suitable for anyone who has been in a love relationship - heterosexual or homosexual. A social network is emerging for people who have completed the course both locally and nationally. |
